Production Technician

POSITION SUMMARY
This position prepares, packages, and ships live animal products and biological control agents according to strict quality standards. The role ensures timely and accurate shipments while maintaining cold-room inventory and supporting warehouse operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Prepare domestic and international shipments according to SOPs and regulations.
· Ship packages through USPS, UPS, and FedEx systems, closing and importing manifests.
· Build specialty shipping boxes for international and special orders.
· Package live insect and biological products to maintain temperature and quality.
· Prepare and ship products such as Lacewing, Trichogramma, Mites, and others.
· Maintain packaging manuals and update protocols as needed.
· Organize and rotate cold-room inventory and maintain accurate counts.
· Assist with in-house product preparation such as larval bottles and cards.
· Operate forklifts and unload stock deliveries when needed.
· Support other shipping stations and departments as required.
· Maintain cleanliness and organization in warehouse areas.
· Dispose of expired materials according to SOPs.
· Other duties as assigned.

This role involves extensive walking, hands-on inventory management, material movement, and collaboration with warehouse, production, and shipping teams to maintain efficient inventory control and accuracy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sourcing & Procurement – Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on price, quality, reliability, and alignment with company needs.
- Negotiation – Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to secure cost-effective agreements.
- Purchase Order Management – Create, process, and track purchase orders to ensure accurate and timely deliveries.
- Supplier Relationship Management – Build and maintain strong vendor partnerships to support long-term business goals.
- Inventory Control – Monitor stock levels and coordinate with warehouse teams to prevent shortages or overstocking. Maintain inventory across BV, Shipping, Caterpillar, Area 77, and 02 Buildings.

- Financial & Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret spend reports, analyze purchasing trends, and develop cost-saving strategies.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance: Knowledge of procurement laws, ethical sourcing, and working with QC teams to meet product standards.
- Technology & Tools: Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar), supplier management platforms, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, reporting tools).
- Leadership & Communication: Experience managing or mentoring a purchasing team, with excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills.

Educational Requirements

The Production Technician - Insect Rearing supports the mass rearing of beneficial insects using established protocols and best practices. This role involves preparing diets and host material, maintaining insect colonies, monitoring life cycles, ensuring proper environmental conditions, and recording accurate production data. The technician works closely with the production team to ensure high-quality and consistent insect yields.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
. Prepare and maintain insect rearing environments, including temperature, humidity, and light controls.
· Handle and care for insect colonies through all life stages (egg, larva/nymph, pupa, adult).
· Prepare and distribute food sources or host plants/eggs to support insect development.
· Collect, separate, and transfer insects according to rearing schedules.
· Inspect colonies daily for health, growth, contamination, or abnormalities.
· Follow strict sanitation and biosecurity procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
· Accurately document production data, observations, and quality control checks.
· Assist with harvesting, packaging, and staging insects for distribution or further processing.

· Work is primarily performed in indoor nursery and production areas, including climate-controlled rooms, rearing areas, and workstations used for feeding, harvesting, packaging, and quality control of beneficial insects (lacewings).
· Position requires frequent pushing, pulling, and maneuvering of tall rearing racks throughout the facility.
· Must be able to work directly with animal-based feed ingredients, including ground beef, egg yolk, and liver, as part of insect-rearing and feeding processes.
· Environmental conditions may include variable temperatures, humidity, plant material, organic substrates, insects, dust, and related odors.
· Work may occasionally be performed in an indoor warehouse, staging, or shipping/receiving environment.
